Juliet Kurtzman - Violin
Juliet Kurtzman, violinist, from Houston, Texas, began studying classical violin at age 7 and by age 10 was winning multiple competitions. She played her first concerto with orchestra at age 11 and at age 12 was the youngest person ever to solo with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. She attended the Curtis Institute of Music while performing concerts in various parts of the country, including her debut at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall. After graduating from Curtis she moved to Europe and joined the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, also playing occasional concerts with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and solo performances. For the past half-dozen years she has been teaching at the New York City Special Music School and at the 92nd St. Y and has continued performing many different genres of music.
Helio Alves - Piano
Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Helio has been living in New York City since the 90’s, and has worked with some of the most important names in both the Brazilian and jazz scenes. That list includes Joyce, Rosa Passos, Oscar Castro-Neves, Airto Moreira & Flora Purim, Claudio Roditi, Louis Hayes, Slide Hampton, Herbie Mann, Phil Woods, Sadao Watanabe, Mike Stern and Randy Brecker, among others. He has also appeared on Grammy-winning releases by Joe Henderson, Paquito D’Rivera and Yo-Yo Ma.
Helio has released four albums as a leader with sidemen that include Al Foster, John Patitucci, Matt Wilson, Duduka Da Fonseca, Nilson Matta, Romero Lubambo, Scott Colley and Antonio Sanchez.
Santi Debriano - Bass
Santi Debriano has proven to be one of the most versatile and creative musicians to emerge from the New York jazz scene. Drawing on such lifelong influences as jazz greats Miles Davis, and Duke Ellington, bassists Charles Mingus, Israel Lopez Cachao, Scott LaFaro and composers Oliver Messaien, Anthony Braxton and Oliver Lake, he’s created a body of music of his own that embraces a variety of traditions and genres. His virtuosic abilities on acoustic bass and guitar, combined with his vast range of experience has brought him to a position of eminence as one of the most inventive and innovative of performers. His work as a leader has been documented on several brilliant recordings with the group Panamaniacs and his current band Circlechant. Santi has eight CDs as leader to his credit and has participated in some 100 recordings as sideman. He has performed and recorded with some of the most notable musicians of our time, including Archie Shepp, Sam Rivers, Sonny Fortune, Chico Freeman, Pharaoh Sanders, and Kenny Barron, Freddie Hubbard, Louis Hayes, Danilo Perez, Bill Pierce, among others.
